The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education – North West Chapter

The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education – North West (CISSE-NW) held a Chapter Organizational Workshop on November 17th, at City University of Seattle.

This workshop brought together representatives from 8 colleges and universities, JBLM, the Washington Department of Commerce, and industry to create a North West chapter of the national cyber security education organization. The purpose of the organization is to promote cyber security education and to encourage cooperation toward that aim among educators, government and industry.

The objectives of CISSE-NW are to: allow broader participation by faculty than is possible with the national CISSE meetings, by reducing the need for travel, conference fees, large time commitments and other “barriers”; share information about programs and opportunities to increase awareness of what other programs in the area offer; discover and map articulation agreements and other pathways among educational institutions; identify appropriate academic programs based upon student learning profiles; provide a forum where researchers can share their interests, identify potential partners and collaborators, and target national grants and other opportunities; provide a forum to advance students through opportunities to publish in a journal or at a conference; investigate the potential for a regional Cyber Security academic publication; learn and support local needs of government and industry for Cyber Security education.

In addition to outlining a charter, selecting officers, and defining its mission, CISSE-NW determined at the meeting to host a cybersecurity education conference at Columbia Basin College on 13 and 14 October 2015. A call for papers will be issued in January. The officers of the new organization are:

  • City University of Seattle
  • Corrinne Sande
  • Vice President
  • Whatcom College
  • Lori Johnson
  • Secretary
  • USAF, Education and Training Section
