Education:

NSA-Designated Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance (IA) Education (CAEs):

The Centers of Academic Excellence in IA Education Program http://www.nsa.gov/isso/programs/nietp/index.htm is intended to reduce vulnerabilities in the national information infrastructure by promoting higher education in IA, and producing a growing number of professionals with IA expertise in various disciplines. University applicants are assessed against published criteria intended to measure depth and maturity of programs in IA. The criteria are rooted in National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Committee (NSTISSC) Training Standards (http://www.nstissc.gov). The NSTISSC is now known as the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS). Training:

Institutions Offering Certified Curriculum
The training standards published by the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Committee (NSTISSC) provide the minimum standards for properly executing the duties and responsibilities of:
· Information Systems Security Professionals - NSTISSI 4011
· Designated Approving Authority – NSTISSI 4012
· System Administration in Information Systems Security – NSTISSI - 4013
· Information Systems Security Officers – NSTISSI 4014
· National Training Standard for Systems Certifiers – NSTISSI 4015

The Courseware Evaluation Program (http://www.nsa.gov/isso/programs/nietp/index.htm) assesses the degree to which colleges, universities, and other institutions meet all of the elements of a specific training standard with a designated set of courseware. Institutions with courseware certified under this program may issue certificates to students, certifying them as trained to a particular standard. Certification:

Although CISSE does not itself offer a nationally recognized certification in the discipline of information security, it does maintain a summary of certification options. To download this list, please click here (.pdf file).
