Matt Bishop graduated from Purdue University with a Ph.D. in computer science; his advisor was Dorothy Denning. He has worked at the Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science, and taught at Dartmouth College before coming to the University of California at Davis. His interests are in formal models of access controls, analyzing systems for vulnerabilities, intrusion detection, and the security of the UNIX operating system. He enjoys trying unconventional teaching techniques.
